When ‘K Narayanan’, a 75-year-old man came out of the bungalow holding the hand of one of his burly bodyguards, he saw both ACP Numbi and Commander Tambi laughing near his car. As ‘K Narayanan’ approached them, ACP Numbi clapped Tambi’s hand loudly and said, “He must have become a politician now!” and started laughing loudly. Then when he saw ‘K Narayanan’ coming from the front, he stopped laughing and saluted ‘K Narayanan’. Then Commander Tambi opened the car door. When ‘K Narayanan’ sat inside the car, Tambi sat near him, ACP Numbi opened the other side door and sat on the other side of ‘K Narayanan’ and the bodyguard who brought him by the hand sat beside the driver.
After the driver started the ca,r Narayanan asked to Numbi and Tambi,“What is the joke about? I heard you were talking about a politician, I also want to know what joke you made about a politician?”
“Not joking, let it go,”Tambi said with a smile.
“Why not ?,I heard you say that he must be a politician by now and laughed out loud. I also want to hear, what kind of comedy is it, about politicians! “K Narayanan.
“Nothing special, this ACP Numbi Told the case of a robbery who was caught yesterday,” said Tambi looking around.
“Numbi?” Narayanan looked at Numbi and said, but Numbi was not paying attention to Narayanan and Tambi’s talk. He was watching every movement outside the car very very carefully. But Narayanan patted him on the shoulder again and asked him, “Numbi, what is he saying?”
“Ah, what happened sir?” Numbi looked at Narayanan and said, “Sorry sir, I was busy, I don’t know what you two were talking about.”
” Tambi said that you two were talking about a robbery case that you caught yesterday and laughing. Tell me what was that case? And what is the politician’s connection with it? “Narayanan.
“Politicians? What did they have to do with yesterday’s case?”, Numbi.
“So what were you saying? That he must be a politician now and started laughing out loud.” Narayanan.
“No, nothing like that, I mean the politician has nothing to do with that case. I am busy right now. I am responsible for your security. We must keep an eye on all sides. Nothing can be said about it now.” Numbi spoke to avoid the topic.
“Keep watching, my security work, I just want to hear that politician’s joke. Tell that joke,” Narayanan said raising his voice.
Then Numbi also got upset and started saying…..
“Yesterday afternoon, there was a call from a jewelry shop in the police station. Three women and one man entered in his jewelry show room, the four claimed to be crime branch officers and demanded Rs 5 lakh. The owner of the jewelry show room asked them for their ID card and they immediately showed the ID card along with the raid documents. However, when the shop owner called the police station to verify, the police reached the shop and arrested the 4 duplicate CBI officers. Fake identity cards and documents were seized from them. When they were interrogated at the police station after being put in jail, they said that they got the idea from Akshay Kumar’s film Special 26.”
“So what does a politician have to do with it?” Narayanan asked the same question again.
“No, it has nothing to do with politics, politicians, we were just talking about this case.” So Numbi resumed his work. But Narayanan asked again, “But you were saying that ‘He must have become a politician now!’ And laughing out loud. I heard it with my ears. Tell me that joke first.”
“There was nothing sir, I mean we didn’t want to say anything like that,” Numbi started to refrain again. But when Narayanan insisted again, Numbi continued to speak……
“Yesterday, when the four fraudsters were put in jail and questioned, they said that they had watched the special 26 video. From that, they decided to pose as fake CBI officers and raid a jewelry shop as shown in the video Nonsense, if it had to be copied, it had to be copied from a super hit picture and a story set in the present day.”
“So? Which movie was that? I don’t know much about Hindi movies. I always watch Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam movies. I don’t know which movie you are talking about. Was it a flop movie?” Narayanan raised his eyebrows and said in surprise.
“Not quite a flop, but average.” Numbi
“And what were you saying about the story? He wanted to copy the story of today. Something like that, what is the story of that film?” Narayanan.
“Special 26 is based on a true story.”Numbi
“Which true event? When did it happen?” Narayanan asked curiously.
“On 19th March 1987 robbery at a jewelry showroom in Mumbai.” Numbi.
“March 19, 1987? What was that true story? Tell me quickly, I am more interested in hearing that true story. I don’t want to hear anything about the film,” Narayanan asked impatiently.
“In 1987 Mumbai there was a Tribhuvandas Bhimaji Zaveri Jewelers showroom which is still there. Big and rich people of Mumbai used to buy jewelry from this jewelers. It is a reputed and well known jewelry showroom in Mumbai. Such showroom was Robbed by only a fake CBI officer at that time. The planning he had done at that time was very confusing. it is said that the police investigated for many years. To catch him, the police interrogated many people, even Dubai, and a team of Mumbai police went to our country Kerala. But still the police could not catch the thief. It was also named PERFECT ROBBERY, PERFECT THEFT, PERFECT CRIME by the police. “Numbi
“What are you talking about! The police themselves call it PERFECT ROBBERY, PERFECT THEFT, PERFECT CRIME!” Narayanan said with his hands on his head.
“Yes but those 4 stupid fraudsters who were caught yesterday tried to rob a jewelry showroom using this same idea.” So Numbi showed Narayanan the CCTV footage of the jewelry shop on his mobile and said “The idea of stealing from 37 years ago is still possible today”. Is it?”
“Not possible, today they should have realized that they will be caught on some kind of camera. Nowadays it is difficult to do such a robbery. Technology has also revolutionized the world of crime.” Tambi said in between.
“Understood, don’t disturb now,” Narayanan slapped Tambi and said, “Numbi, tell me the case of 1987.”
Numbi continued, “It was half past three afternoon on March 19, 1987. Arvind Inamdar, who was then posted in the Maharashtra Crime Branch, received a call from the owner of Tribhuvandas Bhimji Zaveri Jewelers, saying that his shop had been raided by the CBI and the CBI officer had taken away a lot of jewelry and cash. But. He did not give us any receipt. Arvind Inamdar was shocked to hear this. Such a big shop was raided and no one informed the police! Normally when such raids are required, the CBI informs the local police and their assistance is sought. And when he left with so much money without a slip,But. He did not give us any receipt. Arvind Inamdar was shocked to hear this. Such a big shop was raided and no one informed the police! Normally when such raids are required, the CBI informs the local police and their assistance is sought. And when he left with so much money without a slip, he was suddenly alarmed. They immediately sent their team, when the team went there and inquired, the shop owner said that a CBI officer had come here some time ago. When the police first asked his name, he said his name was Mohan Singh. Except for the name of one Mohan Singh, the police have no information about him till now. And it could not be said with certainty that Mohan Singh is his real name. He showed the duly sealed documents of the government and ordered the search by a group of 26 people who had accompanied him. Shop owner was educated so he know, What is raid ? . The owner of the shop had a licensed revolver and he seized that too. His body language and manner of speaking were very similar to that of a CBI officer, so no one had any doubts. And he said he got some information, they got an order, so we have to search your shop. Pull down the shutters, no one can go out from inside, no one can come in from outside, After about 45 minutes, all the jewelry in the shop was kept in different polythene bags and sealed with paper, and when he started to take it away, the owner of the shop asked him if he was carrying so much goods then at least give the receipt. Then he started staring at me and said I will give later, he showed this attitude to the shop owner after which the shop owner became silent. And he went straight out. Until then, no one suspected. When he did not return after half an hour, the shop owner called the police.
After questioning the shop owner, the police team came out and found… that a private bus was parked outside, and there were 20/25 men and women in it.After showing the bus to the shop owner and the rest of the staff, they said that this was the bus and this was the group of 26 people in which the CBI officer had come and these men packed all the jewelry in the shop in small plastic bags and The paper was pasted on it and sealed. And then he filled those bags in a big bag and then he gave that bag to his boss. At the same time the shop owner asked him about the receipt.”
“Then he was a CBI officer in the same bus and he had that jewelry bag too, So he was really a CBI officer!” Narayanan asked in between.
“Thinking this, the police and the shop owner boarded the bus. But there was no CBI officer there! All the other 26 team members and the driver were in the bus. Then the police asked one of them where is your main leader? He said that the shopkeeper asked for the receipt. He is going to the police station to fetch it. So he hailed a taxi from here and left. So did you bring the receipt? The police were shocked to hear this.
After that 26 persons were detained and interrogated. And the story that came out of it was…”
“How was it?” Narayanan asked again curiously.
When the story was understood, the ground slip under the feet of the police. After interrogating those 26 people, it was found that they had become CBI officers today. All had ID cards of CBI. Before choosing them on 17th April 1987 i.e. 2 days before robbing the shop. Mohan Singh had placed an advertisement in the Times of India which said –
Require dynamic graduate. for the intelligent officer post.
It was written below that advertisement-interview venue and timing-TAJ INTERCONTINENTAL HOTEL 10a .m . to 5 p . m .
Ad in Times of India… job offer… that too for Intelligent Officer! One by one the candidates reached the Taj Hotel. Everyone was interviewed from 10 am to 5 pm. Interview, but not so-so but all the questions that are normally asked for an intelligence officer were asked, i.e. why are you joining CBI? How patriotic are you? What will you do by joining CBI? That is, all the important questions for the police force were asked. After that the result was announced. Total 26 people were selected. That’s why the movie was named Special 26 but the story of the movie was different. Those total 26 people were called to the Taj Intercontinental Hotel on the next day i.e. March 19, 1987 at 11 am. Mohan Singh gave CBI ID cards to everyone. Everyone was very happy after getting the ID card of CBI. Got a job very easily! That is also in a prestigious institution of the government! After getting the ID card, Mohan Singh told them that today they will go to a shop in Mumbai to raid. For that, Mohan Singh booked a luxury bus from Taj Hotel. And that bus stopped in front of the shop of Tribhuvan Das Bhimji Zaveri Jewelry.
The bus reached Tribhuvandas Jewelry Shop at 2:25 PM. Mohan Singh was the first to get off the bus followed by 26 others and all entered the jewelry showroom in such a manner that they were ambushed by some army units. Once inside, Mohan Singh showed the showroom owner Pratap Zaveri the CBI ID card and the raid paper with the government seal in such a manner that some soldier held his rifle to his head, on seeing the paper, Mohan Singh asked Pratap Zaveri for his license revolver. And Pratap also handed over the gun to him like a warrior surrendering his weapon. Pratap Zaveri was convinced by his speech and angry expression that he was a CBI officer. Mohan Singh asked to down the shutters of the shop. He asked the other 26 people who were with him to pick up every piece of jewelry in the shop and packed it in small plastic bags and sealed them. He asked 26 people who came with him to do this work, after collecting all the ornaments, he asked them to put it in a bag and also the cash in the shop, but he asked them to put it in the same bag. He was just giving orders and the other 26 were doing the same. Pratap Zaveri told the police that his speech was predicated on the fact that they could not argue with him. He had also heard from other businessmen in his contacts that the shop was being raided in a similar manner. So they never once felt that they were being robbed. Only when he started carrying the bag full of jewelry and cash did he ask for a receipt. But at that time also he showed some such attitude and said he will bring it. But then they immediately became silent.” Saying this, Numbi opened the lid of the water bottle he had and started drinking the water from it.
Then immediately Narayanan asked, “Total how much worth of jewelry and cash did he put in that bag?”
“Exactly, the amount is not known yet. It is said that He put two to three and a half worth of crores jewelry in the bag. The exact amount is not known yet because the shop owner could not tell.” Saying this, Numbi started drinking water again.
“So what did the police do to find him?” Narayanan
“The police then prepared a sketch of him from a sketch artist based on the information provided by the 26 persons, the jewelry shop owner, the hotel staff. The sketch was then shown to the taxi driver in the area. The driver of the taxi in which he was sitting identified him. He said that he asked to take me to the police station but after some distance there was a traffic jam near a signal, he said that I will be late so he got off the taxi after paying the metered fare and walked with the bag! Then where did he go? No one knew. He was eaten by the earth or swallowed by the sky. Today, 37 years later, According to the description given by 26 people, jewelry shop owner, hotel staff, he would be 40 years old at that time i.e. in 1987. Today after 37 years i.e. 40 + 37 means a 77 year old senior citizen like you. And now wherever he is and if he is alive, he would be laughing at the law and the police. And he would be saying in his heart that look, I have committed such a big theft and even today no one has laid a hand on me!” After saying this, Numbi finished the remaining water in the bottle.
“So what does the politician have to do with all of this? I mean, do you think he’s become a politician now? And you said a 77-year-old senior citizen like me, you suspect me? Because I have also been active in politics for the last 37 years. I am working on the post of Mayor of this district named “Chipalkatti”. Till date I am not married and I devote myself fully to the development of this district. If you doubt this Tambi is not just my bodyguard he has my complete financial records. His father was also looking after my work. It was my right hand.”?” Narayanan asked angrily.” Narayanan asked angrily.
“But sir, did I ever mention your name? Or ever say, ‘You must be the thief?
At the same time, his car stopped near the hospital. Numbi and Tambi got out of the car and started helping K Narayanan to get down from car. Narayanan also came out of the car holding both hands and after getting down, Narayanan immediately scolded Numbi, “You did not directly but indirectly taunted me.” Saying this, Narayanan went to the doctor’s cabin. Numbi was going to speak to explain them but Narayanan’s security work was with him so he listened to them quietly and followed them first opening the door of the doctor’s cabin and entering first. After checking the interior cabin, Narayanan took the doctor by the hand and made him sit in front. Then both Numbi and Tambi came out and stood outside the door.
Then Tambi said, “How did you say that to Saheb? Saheb how angry you are.” “Saheb was angry, but I noticed that, he was making showoff! I had seen. When he was shouting at me, he was laughing slightly! ” Numbi said looking around.
“Don’t talk anything, sir was really angry.” Tambi.
“Since when has he been the mayor of your district?” Numbi said scraching his cheek
“I don’t know. After my father passed away last year, I took his place.” Tambi said shaking his right hand.
Then K Narayanan came out. He had the doctor’s report file in his hand, along with his wallet, he handed it to Tambi and said, “I’m going to the washroom, keep this with you.” Narayanan had a smile on his face while talking. He couldn’t control on his laugh. Numbi’s keen eye had noticed this. As they entered the washroom, Tambi and Nambi stood outside the washroom.
After going inside, Narayanan again remembered Numbi’s words that – ‘Now wherever he is and if he is alive, he would be laughing at the law and the police!’
On recalling that, Narayanan couldn’t control laughing and started laughing loudly. Then he remembered Numbi’s words that – ‘He must have become a politician by now!’ He said in his mind…..‘Numbi, you got it right‘. At that time, he felt a strong pain in his chest and he began to scream in pain, immediately he opened the door of the washroom. Outside, Numbi and Tambi heard the sound of Narayanan’s laughter. They were confused by the sound of laughter. But just then Narayanan opened the door and it collapsed on Tambi’s body. Numbi immediately called the nurse and doctor, ward boy . Ward boy immediately came with a stretcher and took Narayanan on the stretcher and then placed him on the bed. Then Tambi kept Narayanan’s file and wallet in his hand on the bedside table.
After checking, the doctor said that he had a heart attack. But due to immediate treatment, his life is not in danger. But he is in a coma. It is not possible to say how many days it will take to come out of the coma. Tambi, Numbi and others were looking at Narayanan and listening to the doctor. Nambi notices he is in a coma but has a smile on his face.At times his closed eyelids moved. At that time the doctor gave a list and asked to bring the stuff from medical. Numbi immediately took the list and took Narayanan’s wallet without anyone knowing.
After coming out with it, Numbi first went to the xerox shop where he took the xerox of Narayanan’s Aadhaar card and PAN card from Narayanan’s wallet and then took the medicines from the medical store showing the list given by the doctor. After arriving at the hospital, Numbi put Narayanan’s wallet back where it belonged, and gave the medicine to the nurse. At that time, the night shift duty staff came. Numbi handover the full charge to night shift duty staff and make move to his home.
After coming home, Numbi first opened the internet. Narayanan’s Aadhaar card and PAN card downloaded on the net. He remembered that this case was given to him for study when he was in Mumbai for police training 4 years ago. He had saved the file detailing the case in his laptop, and he had some magazine and newspaper cuttings containing information about Narayanan, which he read first.
Narayanan was born in the year 1947 in Chipalkatti village of Kerala state of South India, his childhood was spent in extreme poverty, at the age of 10/15 he moved to some distant city to earn money. After that he came back to Chipalkatti village in December 1987. He had crores of rupees at that time. Then he said that he was working in a company in Dubai for the last 20 years and he had saved so much money there. But there was no written proof of this. Only ‘he said’ was mentioned in magazines. But after coming back to Chipalkatti village, he spent the crores of rupees he collected for the development of Chipalkatti village, with that money he built a school-college with modern facilities in the village, and built a hospital. Some industries were started from what was generated. Roads, bridges were built, slowly Chipalkatti village was transformed into a modern district.
There were many articles in magazines and newspapers praising Narayanan’s work. But prior to 1987, he was working in a company in Dubai only mentioned in a magazine, Numbi went online as well as library, read newspaper, magazine of that time, inquired about Narayanan’s relatives and close friends. But to no avail. No information was received about it.There were many articles in magazines and newspapers praising Narayanan’s work. But prior to 1987, he was working in a company in Dubai only mentioned in a magazine, Numbi went online as well as library, read newspaper, magazine of that time, inquired about Narayanan’s relatives and close friends. But to no avail. No information was received about it.
Numbi then opened the file saved in his laptop and it contained the details of who and how investigated the theft in 1987 . The whole charge of this investigation was given to that time sharp mind clever officer-DEPUTY COMMISSIONER OF POLICE S. M. MUSHRAF. At the time of this investigation, he first found that the Taj Intercontinental Hotel where Mohan Singh was staying. Actually he lived as Mohan Singh so his name was written as Mohan Singh in this case. But it cannot be said that Mohan Singh was his real name. The reason was that he had said his address was from Trivandrum Kerala. And all the people who met him said that he spoke in a South Indian accent. So it was certain that he was a South Indian. After that the Mumbai Police team was sent to Kerala. When the police team searched a lot in Kerala, they found a suspect – George Augustine Fernandes! He bears a slight resemblance to the sketch drawn by the sketch artist. Above Numbi’s laptop screen was his sketch and Fernandes’ photo.
He was interrogated for a long time. But later it came to know that he was a petty thief. He was not in Mumbai on 17/18/19 March 1987 when this theft took place! He was there in Kerala. Reluctantly, he had to leave. This was the only one unsuccessful arrest ! After this the Mumbai Police got another tip that he was in Dubai. So the Mumbai Police team went to Dubai. But even there the Mumbai Police team did not get any success. Later, many similar tips were received in the country but no thief was found who stole it in the name of Mohan Singh or Mohan Singh himself.
After this, Mumbai Police made another plan, to catch him. One thing is clear from his pattern of stealing that he was fully aware of CBI’s raiding methods. He knew what documents were required for CBI raids, how and where to seal them. Then two possibilities arose. First one-Mohan Singh himself may be working in CBI and while working, suddenly his intention will be broken and to earn maximum money.Even though he is a real CBI officer, he will be a fake CBI officer without the knowledge of his superiors and carry out fake raids. So Mumbai Police made a list of many CBI officials. Velocity- in a different state. Even today CBI has 800 officers. So there is not a very big force. Then in 1987 there would be 300-400 officers. So Mumbai police matched Mohan Singh’s sketch along with their photos. But there was no face matching with Mohan Singh. So the first possibility is ruled out.
Then another possibility was considered that he would be in touch of with some CBI officer who would be giving him all the information. Or the CBI officer may not even know that his information is being misused. Considering this second possibility, all the CBI officers were interrogated but the Mumbai Police also failed in the same,
So even today the file of this case is saved in the computer of Mumbai Police under the name PERFECT ROBBERY, PERFECT THEFT, PERFECT CRIME.
After reading this, Numbi sent the file to Tambi and messaged along with it – This case will not be saved as PERFECT ROBBERY, PERFECT THEFT, PERFECT CRIME but will be saved as a closed case. Because I caught that thief with bio metric proof. And that thief is our Great Politician- K Narayanan…!
After reading this message, Tambi got started shaking with anger. And he came straight to Numbi’s house and shouted, “How dare you call our Narayanan sir a thief. You are transferred here so you don’t know. Our Narayanan sir has converted Chiplakatti village into a district in the last 37 years. Now he is admitted in the hospital. Outside the hospital, every citizen of this district is waiting for him to come out of coma. In every temple of the district, lakhs of people are offering pooja, prayers for him.
And what bio metric evidence did you get for that 1987 robbery? Do you even know what bio metrics are? DNA Test, Eye Retina. Did anyone know about the D DNA test in 1987?”
“DNA test is not only bio metric proof. Come here I will show you on my laptop what bio metric proof is obtained.” Numbi beckoned Tambi over and showed him the laptop screen.
“This is Narayanan sir’s Aadhaar card and PAN card, I open this QR code in this.” When it is opened, the paw prints of Narayanan’s hand are seen. “Look at the fingerprints of Mohan Singh alias Narayanan Saheb, who did a fake raid on a jewelery shop in 1987, and handed out ID cards to 26 people who were with him.” Numbi pointed to the finger print on the laptop screen with an arrow.
“Then to which finger print expert was this print shown?” Tambi.
“Hey, what era are you living in? Today in 2024, you don’t need a finger print expert to match a finger print. Look…” So he clicked on a link on Google search and downloaded the images of both the finger prints. And immediately on the front screen came the answer “Match”.
Require dynamic graduate, written by Numbi Ne Narayanan in 1987 for advertisement in Times of India saying “Not only this but look at this”. Downloaded the letter and downloaded the signature of Narayanan on the PAN card on the other side. This answer came as ‘Match’.
” These 2 biometric proofs are enough to arrest Narayanan sir. ” Numbi said closing the laptop.
Just as he was about to say something to Tambi, Numbi, he got a call from someone. Tambi’s eyes watered after hearing the conversation on the phone and his throat became tight. After disconnecting the mobile phone, he said to Numbi in a tearful voice, “Who else did you show this message and this proof other than me?”
“No one, only you first showed it.” Numbi.
“Don’t show it, it’s of no use. Because the call just came, it said that Narayanan sir passed away. The public gathered outside got so angry that they vandalized the hospital. Now we have to go to the hospital to control the public. I delete your message from My mobile phone. You delete the message on your mobile. Even if this message goes to someone else by mistake, they will destroy you. Tambi said wiping the tears from his eyes.
Numbi also changed his mind after realizing the next danger and deleted the message and went to the hospital with Tambi.
THE END
